At least 17 people were found dead in Sri Lanka on Wednesday while more than 200 families are missing in the mudslides that affected 3 villages in the center of the country, about 70 kilometers north of the capital, Colombo.
This new report brings to at least 37 the number of dead since the start of the torrential rains that occurred on Monday.
More than 300 soldiers accompanied by villagers searched the mud and debris with the means available to try to find survivors, but bad weather conditions slowed down the rescue operations.
In addition, more than a thousand people were able to take refuge in a school and a Buddhist temple.
The same rains caused severe flooding in several cities, including Colombo.
