Riots have broken out in Sri Lanka in several parts of the country, under tension since the carnage of the Easter attacks.
In Kurunegala, about 90 km northeast of the capital Colombo, police arrested a group of men who attacked businesses run by Muslims. It was Monday morning, testimony of a trader:
“They came with a sword and tried to attack me. About 15 people got into 3 or 4 taxis and threatened to kill me. I fled through the back door, the same group attacked it. my brother’s grocery store. “
Also this Monday, in the district of Puttalam, in the north-west of the country, a 45-year-old Muslim was lynched to death by Christian groups.
On April 21, 258 people were killed in suicide attacks in three churches and three hotels. Attacks claimed by Islamic State.
A curfew has been imposed across Sri Lanka, and social media has been blocked to prevent it from being used to fuel interfaith tensions.
